Hi all. Well, not strictly HF Mobile, but my new Slinky dipole will be used with my mobile rig. Its tuned for 21Mhz and has very good bandwidth, I might get it working on 17M with the AT-180 Icom tuner in the car.

I used choc blocks to connect the slinky to the dipole centre via some 20amp cable. I used some wooden clothes pegs to keep the coils in place. I clip them to some guy rope that helps to support the antenna.

Its feed with basic RG58 and compression type PL259s with clip on RF chokes, I used an MFJ Antenna analyser to tune it, then marked on the rope with a permenant marker. The mast is a cheap fishing pole from Sandpiper which cost £5. Slinky coils are not that heavy but the tension was a bit of a problem however the pole has plenty of give in it.

Full report on performance here when I have tested it on the homebase setup. I hope to compare it to the main 21Mhz dipole.

Well a good result for our 5 hour session at The Ridge. We worked about half a dozen stations, me on 2M FM and Paul www.m0tzo.co.uk on 17M and 20M.

Worked G8XCK, GB2NFM, G7HJN, G3KZB, G4CFB, 2E1IGJ and G4ELY/M before we called it a day. All the stations were on the new Tonna 4ele beam and 100W.
This image is rather poor as its on the Motorola v500 mobile phone. You can just see Paul in the background and you can see the beam on the green pole. Later in the day we raised the pole off the ground and it was still 100% stable.
If I worked you today, thanks for the contact and thanks for looking up my webpage.

Warlingham Radio Day!
Paul M0TZO and myself are off to Warlingham over the Easter Weekend, I am taking along my 4 ele 2M beam, Paul will be trying out his new HF vertical.

You can see the Shark 40Amp cable (Maplin) and the HAMA Gold plated eyelet connectors. I used my normal Anderson Powerpole connectors on the other end, the cable had to be thinned to get it to fit! Note the arrows on the cable!!

I have decided to spend some £££ and upgrade the 12v wiring. I am doing the following:

Replacing the down lead from the battery to the 706 (battery to first connector).

Changing the 706 power cable to a plain one and putting the EMC filter equiped cable into my junk box.

Fitting a temp controlled fan into the top of the lining basket which sits over the rig.

Fitting an MFJ 4416 Power booster when they decide to make it!
Very nearly purchased an IC-7000 the other week, I looked into the pricing from the various emporiums, none particulary seemed all that keen to offer a deal. In fact of the 6 I contacted, three never replied, one quoted prices straight out of the catalogue and one wanted me to by an 857! Only one dealer offered me a deal which, for starters was ok.

So, I looked into the Wide TX mod for 4M, found out this was a bad idea. Then found out the TV rx was only after a mod. So, I am sticking with the trusty old 706 Mk2. Still works perfectly except for a slightly rough tuning dial.

I am in the process of doing some rewiring on the car to improve voltages and reliablility. More on that story, later!
